BMW’s new iX2 debuts with dual-motor four-wheel drive/449km range

 Today, BMW’s new pure electric iX2 (codenamed U10 BEV) officially debuted at the 2023 Japan Mobility Exhibition. This car can be regarded as the electric version of the second-generation BMW X2, with a coupe fastback appearance and an increase in size compared to the previous generation. It is reported that the new X2 and iX2 will continue to be put into production at BMW's Regensburg plant in Germany, and will be launched overseas first in March 2024, and then imported into the domestic market.

BMW's new X2 will provide a variety of power sources, including: gasoline (two types), diesel (one type) and pure electric (one type); and will continue to enrich different specifications of power in 2024.

The new iX2 xDrive30 model launched for the first time adopts a dual-motor four-wheel drive layout and is equipped with the fifth-generation BMW eDrive electric drive system. It has a maximum power of 230kW and a peak torque of 494N·m. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is 5.6 seconds and the top speed is 180km/h. The car is equipped with a 64.7kWh capacity battery, with a maximum cruising range of 449km under WLTP conditions and a power consumption of 17.7~16.3kWh per 100 kilometers. It is also equipped with 130kW power fast charging, which can charge from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes.

Chassis suspension significantly upgraded

The chassis and suspension systems of BMW's new iX2 have been significantly upgraded to provide the vehicle with better handling.


Among them, the new car is equipped with brand-new front and rear axle components, which not only improves torsional rigidity, but also improves steering flexibility and responsiveness. At the same time, the new car's suspension and shock absorption have been further upgraded to ensure both sportiness and comfort. The new iX2 xDrive30 and new X2 M35i xDrive launched for the first time are also equipped with an adaptive M suspension system with functions such as variable sports steering ratio and adjustable dampers, providing better handling and comfort.


In addition, the new iX2 is also equipped with ARB anti-skid stability control technology. Compared with the previous DSC dynamic stability control system, ARB places the anti-skid stability control unit in the motor control unit, achieving more direct and flexible control by shortening the signal path. intervention.

The fastback is more unique and the size is greatly increased.


BMW's new iX2 adopts a more unique styling design, using a large number of ridges and folding elements, which is closer to the outline of the new X4 and new X6.


At the same time, the body size of the new iX2 has also been greatly increased, with a body size of 4554x1845x1590mm and a wheelbase of 2692mm. Compared with the previous model, the length of the new iX2 is increased by 194mm (54mm longer than the new X1 with standard axle), the width is increased by 21mm, the height is increased by 64mm, and the wheelbase is increased by 22mm.

In addition, iconic design elements are also a feature of the new iX2 body. Among them, the new arrow-shaped daytime running lights and Iconic Glow light screen grille (optional) enhance the recognition of the front part of the car. Adaptive matrix LED headlights with blue trim strips are also optional. At the same time, the new car adopts a hexagonal integrated grille, and provides exclusive designs according to different models: M horizontal spoke grille (M35i xDrive) and quartz silver crystal grille (iX2 xDrive30).

The side profile of the car is different from that of the first-generation X2. The new iX2 adopts a more sloping A-pillar and a more streamlined roof line, and further enhances the side profile of the car through elements such as expanded wheel arches and improved Hawthorn corners. Recognition; therefore, even without the BMW logo on the C-pillar of the first-generation X2, you can still recognize that this is a BMW car.


The design of the rear of the car is more layered. The arrow-shaped LED taillights echoing the headlights, combined with the exaggerated rear bumper and diffuser, show the uninhibited character of the new car.

Greatly improved space and richer intelligent configurations

Thanks to the increase in body size, the interior space of BMW's new iX2 is also more spacious and comfortable, and it is equipped with a wealth of intelligent configurations.

Among them, the lateral space of each seat in the car is wider, and the rear knee space is increased by 25mm, and the rear seat backs can be folded down in a 4:2:4 ratio, and the trunk volume is 525L-1400L. In addition, the new iX2 can also be equipped with an optional electric tow hook, with a maximum allowable towing weight of 1,200kg.

While the space has been improved, the comfort configuration has also been greatly upgraded. Among them, the seat materials of the new car include Veganza pure material and Vernasca leather material, while the optional one-piece M sports seats are made of Veganza material spliced with Alcantara material. At the same time, the new car is also equipped with a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, automatic driving assistance system Pro and automatic driving assistance system Plus (supporting ACC adaptive cruise within 210km/h, lane keeping, traffic and collision warning protection functions, 50-meter cycle reversing and other functions).

Finally, let’s talk about the screen and the car. BMW's new iX2 comes standard with the 9th generation operating system (BMW iDrive 9.0), built-in the latest IPA intelligent personal assistant, and uses an integrated floating curved dual screen to display it to the driver. Not only does it significantly reduce physical buttons, but also integrates touch and voice control; it also supports the QuickSelect quick access function, making human-machine operation very convenient. In addition, the new car will be equipped with in-car navigation, intelligent voice control, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, and new Digital Premium (supports online listening to music, watching videos, and games) and other interconnection functions.
